New rear tire find for 4.5" rims???? See what you think....
Here is a tire that may be overlooked as an option for the Dyna 4.5" rims.
It is a full 7" wide inflated...which is more than the other options available for these rims....or so it has been my finding.
According to Pirelli, the Night Dragon is 6.6"wide..(167mm)...close to the stock 160 Dunlop I think. This tire is 178mm or .4 inch wider so it's a noticable difference.
I don't have the specs on the metzler 170 or the SE2 so can't compare those...hoping someone will help with the research futher.
The thing to notice about this tire specifically is the weight rating at 783lbs. That is lower, but not by much more than a few of the others... Some of the other tires are rated at 805lbs.
A diff of 22lbs.
Is that enough to not be used?
Another thing is this is a high mileage tire. Maybe not as sticky as some, but for those of you who want long mileage, and nice fat tire, this could be an alternative.
When I called Pirelli who makes metzler, and the tech told me that the metz's would get higher mileage than the night dragons....I thought maybe this tire is more like the metzlers as far as compound makeup.
Also, it's a radial tire.

If you do a search you'll find several posts about the Night Dragon tire. There's a few guys that have put them on but no one yet, at least to my knowledge, has gotten enough miles to accurately predict what kinda miles we can expect from them. I'm currently on my second SE180 and got about 7500 miles out of the first and looks about the same for the second.

The Dunlop D407 - 170/60/R17, another alternative has the following specs:
6.67" wide
937lbs@42psi
130mph rated
I've been running this tire for the last 8500 miles....have about 5/32 tread left... great tire, should see about 12K.
