Screamin' EagleŽ FatShotz 2-Into-2 Slip-On Mufflers
I was at my local HD Dealership this past weekend. In conversation with one of the parts guys, I asked if I were to upgraded my mufflers from the stock ones to a Screaming Eagle pair, would I need to re-map, or do anything else. (To be honest, I don't even know what that means. But I get it from reading this forum.) He replied that I did not need to do any of that, did not need to change out the breather, or anything else. But he did say I would need to have the bike put on the computer to reflash it with the new codes, and the computer was preprogrammed with these codes and would upload them to my bike. He mentioned that there was a 150.00 cost to reflash it.
He then mentioned a pair of mufflers he had just gotten in, and a customer that was there that just installed the same set. He hooked me up with the guy. He brought me out to his bike to show me them and let me hear them. They sounded great, are not too loud.. just what Iam looking for. I want a good sound, and to get cages around me to know I am nearby. He told me he installed them himself, and it was easy. Just buy a new set of clamps. When I asked him about reflashing the system he laughed and said that all you need to do is take the fuse out, or disconnect the battery for a few seconds. Then to reattach the power and it will do a system check and reset the codes to the proper settings.
So my question to the group, if I do get this set (linked below).. does anyone know this to be the way to go? Disconnect the battery and the system will reset the codes correctly?
Thanks for any and all advice.

If you upgrade the mufflers, I would do the stage 1 upgrade you would need the the ecm flash.
I have never heard of disconnecting battery to reflash. This guy did not understand what you were asking or he just doesn't know what he is talking about.
With out it, my bike ran hot about 20% hotter when I did just the pipes. Put an SE Airbreather in, updated the computer and then took it for a ride. Wow what a difference! Cooler, and more punch on the twist of the wrist. It was worth it. I can't find a friend for foe that would comment on the taking out the fuse or disconnecting the battery that would change anything other than resetting you clock and other electronic devices... The computer on the bike is designed to make the adjustments with a specific limitation and that's it. The remapping opens that gap first by up grading the adjustments with in the limitations set by EPA and peak factory adjustments to the equipment installed. Then the computer will adjust as you ride from different elevations to different styles. Again it is your call, I respect that and wish you either way a great day of riding. I just can't wait till spring. I've personally put 19+K on my new 09 this past summer, now going with FatShotz 2 into 2, SE's, Arlen Ness Super Sucker, and the download. Well that's my take on it. Have a Great Ride...
