I have read alot of posts in this website and I cannot believe how many bash the sportster. I find the sportster a fine machine. I have had mine almost a month now and i enjoy it. I find myself always riding it, one way or another. When I got mine home I changed all fluids, tuned her up, gave it a bath and a fresh coat of wax and this thing purs like a kitten, I would argue mine runs just as good if not better than the big twins.
I would recommend a sportster to anyone, whether just getting back into riding like me after a 25 year hiatus ( I have not rode since H.S. ) or a seasoned rider. I am very impressed with the sportster and it's capabilities. I knew they were good models, I just was not aware how good. I have rode mine all over the place and has yet to disappoint.
listen man, there are a lot of idiots in harley-ville. the more you ride, the more you'll understand that you either become an idiot, or you dont.
i like sportsters but if i had it to do all over again, i'd be on a buell. if you don't understand dont worry because someday you will... or you wont. it all depends on your capacity.
I have an 08 Nightster and it runs great. It looks good, and it's comfortable. I have a bike faster than most for half the price as most. Let the haters bash all they want. Haha. One day I'll build a bigger bike, but for now the Sporter Nightster suits me!

All the bashing on Sportster is harleys marketing scheme. they convince people that the Sportster is a good beginner bike(which it is) then to "trade up" to a more expensive and bigger bike. So after people buy a big twin they feel that their bike is bigger and better and for some people its their way to compensate for their ego. I get nothing but respect on my bike as i do more riding then 99% of people on Harleys. I have about 20,000 miles on my 08 nightster that I have bobbed, toured, and even rode off road. Since this i have gotten another bike to flog that is made to do the kind of riding that i do now. Adventure riding on the Buell!

Certainteed, you would LOVE a Buell! much better for the type of riding we do than the nightster...
I absolutely love my Sportster. It's an 883L with a peanut fuel tank. I've had a few comments about it regards to it being a starting bike, you can upgrade later etc. Like others here I don't give a rats _ss, what ANYONE else thinks, not even my husband. I can keep up with anyone I need to, I can carry anything I need and I can also pick it up by myself if necessary. I can ride it in the wind, rain, sun, on country roads and highways.
So be proud and grateful you get to ride such a great bike. I know I am!!!
