Default momentary loss of power when accelerating

Hello all! 91 FLSTF, about 55k miles.

No Tach, but when I'm accelerating(usually 3rd through 4th gear), when I'm in about the same RPM range it feels, I get the SHORTEST blip in power, if I'm really on the throttle when it happens, my exhaust backfires LOUDLY.
When it happens it's like a fraction of a second.

Electrical? Fuel related?
Any ideas?

Usually one of two things here. Plugs or coil crapping out under high load, or inadiqate fuel supply or running lean from an intake leak.

UPDATE:

Pretty dang sure my issue is related to moisture in the air/humidity.

The first time it happened it was literally RIGHT after a full 2 weeks of non stop rain.

It just happened again this morning(while raining).

Does that help at all? Any more ideas?

Moisture can short out plug wires.

This may be pickin' the flyshyt outa the pepper, but I don't think it's so much *related* to humidity as *exacerbated* by it, if anthing at all.

I'd suspect coils or wires.

hehe. Y'all might be right. I pulled my wires about a week ago, inspected, and re-connected..haven't had the issue since(knock on wood!)

Thanks again, everyone.

Default You have got some good replies..

One of them is probably the cause. My thoughts are the valves are floating. not having time to completely close. would hesitate ever so slightly. Just my opinion.

It'll be interesting to see if this problem comes back. The more I thought about it, the more I began leaning toward a faulty coil because of your comment about it backfiring loudly. To me that suggests several revolutions of the engine with neither cylinder firing, and a bunch of fuel being ignited in the exhaust when the coil finally kicks back in.

Springer's valve float comment has merit as well. A weak or broken spring?
