I only use them in the rain or fog when I'm not following someone.

I ride with mine on all the time as well, but I have a friend, him and his wife both ride, if the one in the back is haveing trouble they turn off the passing lamps to let the one if front know.

Having an option is always best and being courtious in groups is a great reason to turn them off.

What bugs me is the Albert Einsteins who determined that the passing lamps must turn off when the high beam is on. I have my passing lamps wired to stay on always unless I choose to turn them off with the SPOT switch.

I'd be interested to hear one logical arguement as to why the passing lamps turn off when the high-beam is turned on.

Here's ther schematic for those who CHOOSE to make the change.

This is advantageous when you have a headlight modulator that requires your high beam switch to be on. Keeps the spots on while the headlight modulates.

I leave mine on all the time, except when the headlight high beam switches them off.

Never heard them called Passing Lamps. I thought they were considered auxiliary lamps. Just curious, why are they called Passing Lamps?

I think they call-em "Passing Lamps" because "Look, Here I am You Stupid Fu@#ing Moron Lamps" was just too long of a name.

Clint,
Can this mod be made with just pulling the batwing or is it deeper than that?

Why turn them off?

Because there are some places like Tempe Arizona that will give you a ticket if you have more than one forward facing white light on on a motorcycle.

Even if the bike comes that way from the factory and there's no way to turn it off short of taking the bulb out.

During the day I run with my headlight on bright because of the increased angle the light shines at, it seems to get oncoming drivers attention more. At night I need all the light I can get so I run them.
