2003 sportster 1200 custom won't start

We have been trying many different things to find out why the Sporty is hard starting or non starting. Just when ya think it's over and all is gg to be ok ya run into something like I did yesterday morning. The scoot started and I didn't keep it gg because of the Enricher being out. Ya want to get it off asap. Well, after it would not continue to run I was hacked as would be expected. Later in conferring with my son, I discovered I had the GAS OFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF ! Gawd.....

2003 883 Sportster Custom Wont Start
I have an 883 Sportster that won't start. It's been sitting in my garage for the past 8 months and I'm trying to get it working again. It worked like a champ 8 months ago. I have trouble-shot the problem to what I believe to be a carbureator issue.
It will not start at all, and it's as if there is no fuel at all making it in to the motor. All fuel lines check good. I removed the air filter, and when I cover the air intake hole as I crank the bike, it creates quite a low pressure/vacuum inside the carb and the bike starts right up, runs for 3-5 seconds, and then flames out again.
I suspect the air pressure inside the carb just isn't low enough to pull fuel into the motor. I haven't changed anything on the bike from 8 months ago.
Do I need to clean the carb, or is something else wrong?
