I've purchase a HD '08 RockerC in the USA and am Importing it into Canada. As required by Customs I need a Clear Recall Letter from Deeley Harley Davidson Canada. Tonight I faxed my Bill of Sale and Clear Title Documents to Deeley Canada. On the Recall Application it says processing may take up to 15 days and no recall requests can be expedited. Has anyone been involved in this process and what are your experiences with regards to length of time waiting on this Recall Letter?? My Shipper will not pick up the bike until all paperwork is in place.
Thanks for taking the time to read my post and taking the time to respond.

I am also about to import a used Harley from Arlington TX, tell me what you had or have to do and go through, so far the deal is they ship it to a wharehouse in Seattle and I pick it up from there, but I would rather have it shipped to Vancouver.
Don't ship it to Seattle, ship it to Pantec Mini Storage, 943 Boblett St. Blaine WA 98230. 360-332-6111. Vehicle, Trailers, Surplus Inventory, Sporting Goods, Self Storage Association Member, Samples, Recreational Vehicles etc.
This place is 2 minutes from the border.
Also, the recall letter can come from a HD dealer so ask the seller to get one from the service dep't of his local dealership for you. If there is a charge it will be small but you should get it same day.
To all you folks wishing to import any HD motorcycles into Canada.. Check to see if there are any safety recalls before importing. And have the recall cleared through a dealer in the USA. Deeley Canada and all of it's Dealerships in Canada Wont help you because you did not purchase the motorcycle through them ! I think Deeley Canada should have their licenses pulled for this type of crap they pull. RIV will not allow you to registar any ehicle that has a safety recall from another country. And Deeley wants you to spend your money with them and no one else. For example...Purchased a springer softail that had a recall on a acorn nut on the springer front end. Bike was purchased with Fat boy style front end. HD dealership wants me to spend an additional $6000 dollars to put the Original springer front end on it before they will clear the recall. So if the SAFETY problem was removed from the motorcycle and a safer front end was installed ... WTF is the problem.....Oh Ya .....$$$$$$$$$$$... Smells like another ripoff scam supported by NAFTA.. I have spent thousands of dollars at different dealerships in Canada.. No longer will i do this... All my purchases will be through a USA Dealership.
Took me about two weeks to get my faxed copy of the letter from Deeley Canada.....seems like forever when I was waiting, but they did come through..........
I walked into my local Canadian HD service dept. and said "Hey I just purchased a U.S. registered Harley. I need a recall letter and a safety check." He printed my recall letter on the spot and set up an appointment (in one week) for the safety.
yeah don't get me going on deeley...up here its bad enough we got screwed on exchange rates over the years...and with deeley slapping on thier mark up.....bottom line us canucks paid huge amounts to run HD's...more power to you if you can buy from the states...but do not expect to welcomed by a cdn dealer on warranty work if you bought new from the U.S...

I imported a harley last year.I had the guy in the states go to a hd dealer to get the recall letter done.It had a small problem which he got fixed at the dealership and got the recall letter showing all good. You need this letter to get through customs as well as for RIV in Canada. Make sure you fax the US border a copy of the title at least 48 hours in advance or you will not get across.Good luck its no big deal and worth the $.
I've imported 3 vehicles, 2 cars, 1 MC, not an expert but fairly well informed on procedures. Good idea to choose a vehicle without recalls on it, makes it much easier when you get it back home. Some, like Honda, go out of their way to make things difficult.
Fax 3 things to the border your crossing
- some want a worksheet submitted,
- bill of sale
- title if used vehicle (both sides and signed by buyer and seller) if it's new fax Certificate of Origin (some call it Manufacturers Certificate of Origin).
They want this info 72 hours before you cross. Make sure you know the specific border crossing times and hours when they will inspect, some don't count weekends or holidays as the 72 hours. Call them for details. Have all original documents when you cross. Some are open 24 hours and only inspect 9am-5pm Mon-Friday, no weekends. Again, I'll say, call them, these times vary.
You don't need the recall letter at the border but RIV wants it and approx. $200 when you get back here. If possible have the dealer/owner get the recall letter before you purchase. This simplifies things when your back. RIV has online payment procedure, Canadian border people give you something called a Form 1 when you cross, hang onto that for inspections at home. You have to stop and check in at both sides of the border. G'luck it sounds difficult but it's easy to accomplish.
I like helping people with this and that won't change till our dealers here come into line with US pricing, I encourage importing.
