2007 serk recall / heating / issues
Well I screwed up a few weeks back, bought a 2007 SERK . Fell in love with the dang thing, just had to have it. Well I got it, now I start doing
some research , after I wrote the check. Feel like a fool,but its mine.
The bike has 1800 miles,no problems, should I take it in for the gasket
job or wait? I read somewhere that dealers had changed gaskets and cylinders, is this common or last effort type fix?
Also found a outfit called nightrider.com, they talk a good story about
having a fix for high exhaust temp/air to fuel ratio. I'm a mechanic by trade so I understand what they are talking about. Has anybody else heard or had any dealing with these folks,is their fix legit.
Appreciate any opinions.

Read Donny Peterson book vol 2. The part about the SE110 engine. The sub part about the HD cilenders for the 110. The are made with a flaw the way the iron liner matches to the aluminum fin part. His solution basicly is to go to Axtell for cilenders. Bullitproff. Axtell spouts also fit tighter into the case.
It is posible HD has corrected the problem, I really expect so, but who knows when?
Read the artical. Has pictires. they cut a cilender in two and took apart.
Other than that the bikes are good to go.

I have almost 30k miles on mine and love it. I had some gasket issues but my Harley dealer took care of it no charge to me.
I also got a 50.00 gift cert. from harley to use at the dealer
I think they have the gasket issue solved. Take it in and get the recall gaskets changed to what is going to work. Enjoy that bike and dump the BS that you hear.

Wasn't a gasket issue. They might have found a gasket that works on the cilenders. The iron liners are not bonded to the aluminum fin part for the top 1/2 inch.. Squirms arount there right next to the oil return spot.
Doesn't blow the head gasket. Gasket holds on the liner. Leaks a little oil there from the aluminum part of the gasket area. Which doesn't have a O ring there.
I doubt if it was designed that way but got made that way and they must have ordered a boat load. And went with it.
Reason I even said anything is MERETA seemed real down about all this. Wanted to help out. Knowledge is power. And feels good out in the world.

+1 I have not seen any sign of an oil leak on my FXDSE, I have not had the recall work done, and unless it becomes a problem I will not. The dealer can't even install the bolts in the console correctly, why let them take my engine apart?
