Default HD parts guy says Dennis Kirk sells JUNK

Ok, so I decided I'm going with a set of Supertrapp Mean Mothers II for my bike. I called Dennis Kirk last week and they're waiting on some to come in and should have them in about 3 weeks.

Yesterday I stopped by the HD dealership and thought I'd see if they could get them for me through Drag Specialties so I wouldn't have to wait. The parts guy said he could get them right away. The price he gave me was about $100 more than Dennis Kirk. I asked him if he could do better on the price because DK will have them for $100 less. Well, his tone immediately changed and he said "I can't compete with their prices when they sell junk". When I asked him to explain he said that Dennis Kirk mostly gets products that have some kind of defect such as scratched or dinged chrome, stuff that hasn't passed the manufacturers testing etc. I found that hard to believe but I played along with his little game. He went on to say that I wouldn't get a warranty from them and that I would be taking a big risk. I said OK, I'll keep that in mind, then I left.

Tomorrow I'm calling Supertrapp and letting them know what is being said about a company they do business with. I don't know if they'll care but I feel they should know. The simple fact that this guy suggested that Supertrapp would send out "crap" to a distributor they use should upset them though.

I'm wondering if any of you have experienced the same thing.

I wouldn't sweat it. It happens all the time. The dealerships can sometimes get desperate for business and say lies like this. I don't know if anyone is telling the parts guys to say stuff like this but it's obvious BS.

On that note though I can, with experience and certainty, advise you to avoid Demon Cycles. They do sell a lot of cheap junk. Not all of course but a lot.

I'm not saying it's impossible, but I find it hard to believe that Supertrapp would sell a set of pipes to DK that are junk and another set of the same exact pipes to Drag Specialties that are good. Why would they do that?

Except for exact same part number, and exact same price.

Thanks for the tip. I can see some distributors selling cheap knock off versions of some stuff. But I don't think Supertrapp makes a good set of mean mothers and a shitty set of the same pipes just so one of their distributors can sell them for less. You're right though, I'm not going to sweat it.
