now does that mess up your miles to empty or your gauge at all? was thinking about getting the three inch.

Looks good man, love the color, but then I'm a little biased too.

make sure you have clearance if you go three inches, and probably count on changing the crossover tube (Jackyl's comes with one)

Yes, it will affect your fuel gauge. I just go by miles to know when to fill up.

I say it is just for looks and some folks say it helps cool the engine. I am not so sure on the cooling part as the air over the fins is what does the cooling, but I can tell you it makes the top of the engine easier to get to for cleaning and I think it just looks good. I love mine.

In which way does it affect the gas gauge? Does the gauge read less or more fuel than what is actually in the tank?

I run a 2" tank lift from forum member Jackyl. My reserve indicator comes on around 130 miles after a full tank of gas - and my reserve is said to have 30miles remaining - this will usually drop drastically as I ride.

NOTE: I have never used my fuel\reserve indicator on any bike. I always reset my trip A\B indicator and track fuel consumption by the mileage. Last week I got about 185 miles to the tank before I stopped to refuel and even then I had about .5 of a gallon left in the tank.

Love my 2" tank lift - big props to Jackyl!!

Is a tank lift purely cosmetic?

Yes, and quite good at it too. Some say it helps the cool the engine some by allowing more air to flow over it, I have my doubts on this though.
