Anyone get the letter? Got mine yesterday. My helmet is model EXT-003 with a date of 01-08. Has anyone here returned theirs? What do you get back? Is it completely gutted and redone on the inside? Do you think it's worth it?
The letter states that the ones manufactured from 01-08 thru 06-09 fail to comply with federal motor vehicle safety standard no 218. Not DOT compliant..
The recall went out late Spring of 08. They ship you a return box, replace the liner, and ship it back all at no charge. The turn around is pretty quick.

Hmmm, or is this one something new? Are you sure of the dates? If so, I'll give Erin at ACC a call in the morning.
Yes this is a new recall, not the one from 08.The letter to me is dated Aug 10th 2009. When I bought my helmet back in February 08, I was told it was the newer kind that did not need to be recalled, so I guess ACC is on a second round of recalls.
I always wondered about the use of carbon fiber for helmets. I've used carbon fiber a lot in the archery world, and it just seems to me that it's too fragile. A good crash could send carbon fiber slivers into your head.

The helmet recalls to-date have to do with the liner, not the carbon fiber shell. Even with the last ACC recall, it involved a minor technicality over the way one of the tests were done and the results under 218.

I have a ACC extended half (black candy)(model ext-003) bought directly from them. I have NOT been sent anything from them about a recal...my helmet date is 04-09....could this be the reason you don't see many D.O.T. for sale?
