He is gonna do this for me in the next week or so and we'll see what the results are and go from there.

Someone on here asked what I thought of the power duals and I think they are fine but I'm not 100% in love with them. I'm actually in the process of changing out my monster ovals to a set of standard rinehart slip ons. The constant drone going down the highway bothered me quite a bit on the way to sturgis(I typically wear a ff helmet and ear plugs). It's hard to describe but for me the MO aren't what I ultimately wanted. I'm going to keep the power duals but ebay the monster ovals in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks again for the info everyone!!!!
So now the big question, what cams are you going to use?

Well this happens every time an upgrade is mentioned. Everyone starts saying what a pile of crap the HD kit is. I was in the exact same boat as you are last year at this time after a fully loaded trip to the Smokies. I ride with my old man who rides a new Goldwing and in the mountains the 96 just wasn't cutting it even with my fuel moto setup which by the way I believe to be the best performance/dollar upgrade you can make to a stock bike. Anyway I went back and forth about what to do. After talking to a very reputable dealer in my area that has several very good techs we struck a deal. This package does not have the oh and ah numbers that you will get with a Head Quarters kit which is an great kit for all out performance but I was able to do this alot cheaper than a Head Quarters kit to since I would not feel confident enought to install a head quarters kit by myself. I went with the SE 103 kit with SE 255 cams. I used SE adjustible push rods (in case I wanna do cam swap later), SEST Tuner, and a D&D FAt Cat with Ghost Pipe. The shop did the complete install and dyno then gave me a one year unlimited mile warranty. I got 89 HP and 101 TQ. I bike is completely different and runs great. This year I had no problem in the mountatins my old man even commented how well the bike ran. Also just to let you know I did not have compression releses installed and have had zero problems with hot starts even running in the mountains in 90 degree heat. I think this has alot to do with getting the bike tuned properly with the SEST but not sure. As far as price goes I had all this done for $2900 and that included $1100 for the D&D with ghost pipe. So the build itself with tune only set me back $1800 which in money well spent in my book.

He suggested I do the Andrews 54H gear driven cams with adjustable push rods and then this winter I will get him to install the 103" kit and have the heads worked on by Big Boyz. I have another trip coming up in a few weeks and can't have the bike down for very long so I'm going to get this part done and then have the balance of the work done sometime around the end of the year.

If you think the monster ovals have a drone wait till you get the rineharts on. I had them on my 06 ultra and my ears were ringing after a couple of hours on the highway. I think the M/O are much less annyoying on the ears. To eash his own I guess.

One more option to go is SE Stage III kit for 1500$. My setup is around 2K$(Parts only) . But now I have a bike that I love to ride.

I've had my 103 stage II for 2 years, with SERT have the premium oil cooler and V&H dresser duals. Power wise, no noticeable difference 2 up with my 17 yr daughter .
Torque comes on as soon as you let the clutch out and stays till about 4500.

I got mine at purchase so it was fully warrantied, if you get it post purchase it's 90 days.

In terms of heat , you still face the issue of short overlap with the SE 255 cam, although it has good torque. I would recommend the Andrews 54 and if you aren't doing heads use a .030 head gasket to bump the compression a bit. It has more overlap and produces really good power.

I'd also agree for the difference in price, go with the 107 Axtell , and get the timken bearing conversion. GMR has dyno sheets on this and sells the kit, with or without heads.

I really love my Stage II 103" with 255 cams. But I had mine done when I bought it so it's under warranty. If the warranty is not a factor, I would look at some of the other options out there, like a good 107" set up.

Thanks guys. Here is what it looks like we are going to do:
103" flat top pistons, adjustable push rods, Andrews 54H gear driven cams, send the heads off to Big Boyz head porting service for modifications. I am going to keep my power duals but change my slip ons to rineharts(I don't like my monster ovals....personal preference). Then take the bike to the dyno tuner to dyno tune my pc 5.
