I just have the stock CV on my 90 but it is a really good performing carb. I get 43mpg and the power is great with a 2:1 exhaust and a hypercharger air filter.
One thing to consider, if you ride a lot to different altitudes I think the S&S is easier to change jets out. Just a thought.

- Carb
- Intake manifold w/flanges
- New o-rings and carb grommet for the manifold
- Throttle cables (for post '89 model of your bike)
- Air filter backing plate or assembly for '90 - '98 (they actually hold the carb on the engine)
- Enricher cable/elbow/valve (if it's missing from a used one)
- Throttle cable bracket (they are sometimes missing from a used one also)
One more thing - most of the backing plates or brackets are made for the post '92 models with breather type heads. Not a problem, just use the original bolts with heavy 5/16" washers or spacers to bolt the plate/bracket to the head.

Honestly it all makes me think I might just get an S&S Super E for my 85 FXWG.
I'm very familiar with the Super G on my chopper.
Any great reason to pick the CV over the Super E?

Actually, No.
Only experience I have at all with an S&S was on a '72 Shovel that belonged to a guy I used to (try to) ride with. I called it an S&S "floodmaster."
But seriously, if you're familiar with them and have hands-on experience, you may be better served to go that way.

I have a bone stock, all original motor in my 85 FXWG. I'm thinking of replacing the stock Kehin butterfly carb with an S&S Super E. Will I see any perfomance gains over the stock carb that is in good shape and tuned?

The stock Kehin was a total POS. I still have one in my junk carb box. The Super E will be much better. You'll have to get some jets because the jets it will come with, even if you order it specificall for your bike, will be pig rich.
