Do Any of You Big Guys Lug the Motor (i.e. knocking) During Take-Off?
I weigh in at just a tad under 300 lbs.
When taking off from a stop, I have to be careful to properly feather the clutch, otherwise the motor will lug and knock loudly. It seems that I need to rev the motor first, then let out the clutch. On most other bikes that I've had before, I could start to let out the clutch and then gas it. But it's backwards on this HD. Just an observation.
At 220 lbs. I don't notice any lag. But if I think about the few times I've ridden 2 up, it seems to me that a little extra juice is required upon clutch release for a smooth start off the line. I mean it just makes sense. Don't it?
I only weigh around 220 and I've done it a couple of times myself. Its the delay in the throttle by wire. I never did it on any of my other bikes with cable throttle.

Another thing....are you sure it's the motor knocking? Until I had my primary adjusted "properly" by an Indy my bike would shutter all the time on take off. I thought it was normal until I had it set "right". Now it's as smooth as glass.

Get your RPMs up a bit, and roll on the throttle as you are letting out the clutch.
