Default Thinner Helmet Cheek Pads?

I bought a new Shark RSX helmet because it was one of the best fitting in the store. Still the helmet's cheek pads are pressing up on me in longer rides and making it somewhat uncomfortable. They don't offer slimmer cheek pads the way other helmet companies do though. Anyone know if a way I can make them thinner on my own? Or maybe somewhere I can to get aftermarket replacements that are thinner?

Default helmet

The benefit of a motorcycle helmet is twofold, the hard outer shell to brevent sharp things from entering your head and the styrofoam liner which allows itself to be compressed as the brain slows itself down as it hits the inside of your skull, The more immediate the stopping of the brain the more initial trauma/damage and the more energy it has to rebound and hit the opposite side and bounce back again. Slow is good. The other element is the holding of the helmet on your head. The strap mostly does this and somewhat the tightly fitting cheek pads. Host half helmets can be removed easily without much effort...just try it. The cheek pads alsp prevents the wind/air pressure differential from moving the helmet on your head unde high wind conditions bit thinning them should not really reduce the safety of the helmet. You can remove the foam rubber, shave it and replace it back but do not use an adhesive which will disolve any of the styrofoam. My wife was killed in 2003 on a pedal bike descending at 36 mph when she hit a car. The force, just at 36 mph was so great the chin strap webbing heat fused apart and she had on a $100 top notch helmet. I hope this info helps. Jim FXDSE2

My Shoei pads were too tight, giving me a headache. Make sure you have worn your helmet long enough to break in the pads. If the pads are removeable take them apart from the backside and carefull trim the foam a small amount at a time...good luck
