Good luck dawg. I just bought an 09 and am very surprised at all the "open" connectors compared to my 06. I'm surprised this kind of thing doesnt happen more often with folk who have to leave their bikes out in the weather for whatever reason.
common to all failures you are having is the ignition switch run position. if ou can duplicate 1 of your problems with the ignition in the run position while parked, try to turn the swithch to the left and right while problem is happening and it may correct. wiggle switch again problem may come back. if not the switch, may be a connection in that circuit. let us know what you find
+1 on the switch. my bike sometimes if I turn it on and it is not just right the bike will start but no accessories, sometimes I will have the accessories but the bike won't start I just have to wiggle it around
two your handle bars on way then replace the fuse. If it stays good and all functions, then reach up behind the headlight and grab some wires by the neck of the bike, give them a squeeze and move them around some. If you blow a fuse the short is likely in your hand. If nothing then repeat for the other side. I had a similar experience and it kept blowing fuses. Happened to notice it would blow when I turn my wheel. Mine was a worn wire from rubbing that would short when it contacted some of the grease from the neck which lead back to the bare metal zerk fitting. Taped up the wire to get home, fixed properly when I made it back and have not had the issue since. I hate chasing shorts so maybe you will get lucky as I did.
I feel your pain. The short could be anywhere. I was looking in my manual to get an idea what runs off that fuse. I saw that there are some connectors that you can unplug to eliminate the rear lighting. Maybe you can do that and see if the fuse still blows. Process of elimination. Let us all know what you find.
Techs at the shop had it for 2.5 hours and couldn't duplicate it on the lift by messing with the signals and the brakes. Took it out for a ride and pop went the fuse. He doesn't know if the signals or the brake blew it, but it blew while riding. Back to square one
Any LED's and load equalizers? I have had very strange things happen when my Kuryakan load equalizer (for '09 w/security) burned out. Works well until it overheats and then it can impact all lighting, and security systems.
