You did a nice job on the pictures and I am glad you like the HID set-up. I gave it alot of thought, but because of the cost I thought I would try a higher watt/quality bulb. I went with a 85/80 I can see so much better now I no longer needed to pursue the HID solution. This is no attack on your upgrade as I am sure it is very nice..

My dad (07 Street Bob) and I (09 Street Glide) were thinking of getting HID lights like those. My main question is should we carry a spare HID bulb for trips, or can we carry a stock bulb and change it back if the HID burns out. I would prefer not to have to buy 2 HID bulbs as they are not cheap. I understand that HID apparently last a long time, but dont want to risk losing a headlight on a road trip.

Also, if the bulb does burn out, can I replace it with a bulb from a different manufacturer?

Thanks,

Craig

You can use the stock bulb. You would just disconnect the factory bulb connector from the HID harness and plug it back into stock bulb. In the HID setup the factory bulb connector acts as a trigger for the relay that turns the HID on/off and low/hi.

I dont know how your light comes apart, but i prob wouldnt put it in there, it would prob be better suited under your seat.. or somewhere else, it is pretty small...

What about the 881's for the aux. lights, I wouldnt want to leave them std. halogen if I put an HID headlamp in...
it literally took me about 30 minutes to install this system, I would have to take a look at a road king and figure it out, should be easier than stated, but i am used to this kind of work, if you are going to get a set, i will take a look at my buddys road king and figure it out for you?

answer below, you can just keep your stock bulbs as back ups, but i dont think the price of another hid is too bad, i will have to look into it, they should last quite a while

It's a relay that switches the power and high beams on/off.

Has anyone installed one of these kits in a Road Glide to know if the back of the bulb clears the radio? It's a lot more tight in the front of the Road Glide fairing.

the bulb would have plently of clearance, as it isnt much bigger than stock, did you see the picts in my thread about this stuff?

Once installed the difference was amazing. Night driving cannot be compared to regular lights. Dont even need to use the high beams, althought in the kit I have, when the highbeam is switched, the bulb moves up (not trying to blind anyone)...

For the color, I choose the 12000k (diamond blue) HID. The bulb fit right in place and the harness was plug and play... You just need to provide a switched power and ground, I lost my instructions, but didnt even need them, it pretty much goes on one way. The ballast(in my kit) was the slim one, and it will pretty much fit anywhere...

I will update this as I go along, I have been out of town and trying to catch up on everything...

Feel free to ask any questions...

the original thread:

well packaged

simple instruction sheet (which I lost shortly after taking the pict)

included items

the HID

the ballast (slim)

highbeam controller

very nice fittings/harnesses for plug and play

factory bulb

factory rubber boot removed and HID installed, fit right in and snap in with the factory ring

factory high beam (which ill get better picts later, of someone elses bike, I was so eager to get this kit installed I didnt dwell to much on the old stuff)

HID (low beam)

again feel free to ask any specific questions, and i will do my best to provide an honest answer, as to my personal experience with this kit... so far it is great...
Do you have an update on how this HID kit is working out. How many miles have you put on the bike since the install and is it still working as when first installed? Thanks
