I've heard that twisting the throttle during idle can cause the sputter, but I don't do that so that is not the problem here.
I am encouraged to hear that HD has issued a "cold start" update for the 09 1200's EFI. At least they are working on the fix and putting out notices about this problem. My bike is an 08 1200 but it sounds like the same issue.
If you interupt the idle mode when cold, by twisting the throttle at anytime, it will cause a bit of a stutter
This is at slow idle, no input at all.
Today it died, started right back up and I had to twist the throttle a couple times to keep it running, maybe it had to warm up.
My 08 nightster does has the idle miss from time to time as well after a cold startup. It has never died though. I havent really been too concerned since its running well otherwise. It has never done it while at a light or idle in my driveway after a ride.
My bike is a 2008 1200 Low. Back in August I requested my dealer plug in my bike to check for a "rumoured" software update. Although initially skeptical, he discovered my bike did not have the most current calibration (went from a "C" to a "D"). Since this update, I haven't had any sputtering. I'm really hoping this is the end, because the dealer has been required to rip my bike apart a number of times searching for the problem before Harley Davidson issued a trickle of info on this known issue.
