Default speedo quit and bike runs bad

okey here's the deal, 2 events happened one day my 2005 fatboy fell over pretty easy on the right side and the next day i got caught in some heavy rain. Ridein home in the rain the speedo qiut working and the bike ran crappy and wouldn't idle. I'm not sure if any of these events caused the problem. I unpluged the ecm and blew it with a hair dryer just to make sure it wasnt wet. So i went for a ride and it did it again about 15 minutes into the ride but ran fine until then. Ran the diag. and came up with a p0505 code in the history and cleared it. Rode it again and worked fine for 15 minutes and speedo quit again and ran crappy. Checked diag and no codes this time but still have the problem. Took the speedo senser out and it looked real good and clean so i put it back in. Can anyone help me solve this problem or give me some ideas on where to look next. Also i run amsoil in all 3 holes and the bike has only 4000 miles on it and bought it used last year so no warnanty. Thanks for your time all.

The P0505 is due to an inability to maintain idle speed. The ECM uses the IAC to control idle speed. Since you dumped it on the right side you may have gotten oil out the breather that's gumming up the passage the IAC control air flow though. It would help to know what you were doing when the problem started. Where you accelerating, braking, low rpms, high rpms, transition, ect. The speedometer seems sensitive to voltages so, generally, it seems speedometer problems are the first indication of a problem with the voltage regulator.

Well i took a chance and just replaced the speed senser cause i couldnt find anything else wrong and managed to put 50 miles on it in between rain drops and all seems good so far. It was a tuff one for me to diagnose cause it just so happened to quit in the rain and i thought it had something to do with something getting wet or when the bike fell over the day before. So those things kinda threw me off track a bit. Well i'm headin on a bike run on sat. and i should know by then if all is well Thanks for your help and time all.

I'm having a similar issue with a 2001 RK, didn't really think the two were related, is yours all ok after the speed sensor change?

Speed sensor.....new one will fix you right up. You can try and take out the old one and clean it but after a day or two it'll start acting up again. New one is the sure fix.
