Default I got my recall letter today,

I dropped my bike off to install a oil cooler. So while they have it they will fix the fender.

I got my letter yesterday and promptly called the dealer for an appt. but they don't have the correct parts yet so I'm scheduled for week after next. In the meantime, the service guy told me to just make sure the acorn nut is tight. It is.

From what I've read the dealer fix is a pinned nut. Since my nearest dealer is 81 miles away, I'm going to safety wire and Loctite mine.

Default Got Mine Fixed

It's not the acorn nut, it's the acorn stud (number 8 in figure 2-64 on page 2-42 of the 2008 Softail Service Manual) that gets replaced with one that has a cotter pin to keep it from falling out of it works loose. The acorn nut (a different part) doesn't get replaced. And it's one of the parts holding the front brake assembly on (my ride doesn't have a "break" yet). Took about 30 seconds to replace it.

Dropped mine of Sunday afternoon for the recall. I would have just locktited the nut and called it good, but my wife read the recall and said no trip next week unless I took it in so...

Called the dealership I bought my bike from, service dept. had NO CLUE what I was talking about. They said they don't hear about recalls, the customers get the letters and thats how they find out. Guess I'll take it to a different dealership, or just do the fix myself.
