an oil cooler can only help. and a fan on one even better.

my ?? after reading many post about heat is how are there so many temps all over the board.

on post said it had a temp of 195 on bike one and 260 on the other. some bikes never get over 200??

i have to ride my bike for at least 18 miles on the xway at 70 with an outside temp of 100 to reach 225f
so i believe some are not riding long enough to get an accurate temp or their gage is kinda crazy.

i did test mine, went for an 1hour ride then stuck a meat thermometer in the oil . the temps were the same.
i`m recomending everyone checks their gauge,

I think these guys were jerking my chain.
Find a new dealer....or go back to the one you normally go to

Thumbs down Got that right

Yeah, I was poking aorund the sump with some mechanical fingers and felt nothing. I think this "world largest" HD dealer (we know who he is) was trying to churn my account. Shame on you BRHD.

Default Epilogue

Bought a USB borescope with LED lights. Drained the sump and fished the scope around and there was nothing in the sump. Fresh oil/filter and I'm I am good to go.

Called the original owner I purchased the bike from - he was shocked. I know I've looked at that stick a couple time since I bought is 2 months ago. Never noticed the piece missing.

Hmmm.

Default crash bar as oil cooler

i saw on a resto proj of an old flt the guy turned the crash bar into an oil cooler, good idea ??? i have an 09 road king i bout the adapter from j and p some braided hoses and some fittings from hard ware store the fittings are npt thread so no chance of leaking, i drilled tapped and flushed my crash bar adding a hole on the top to fill the bar, it takes an extra quart and a half to fill it so when changeing oil you have to drain and fill seperatly as it is a seperate oil pan for lack of a better word, i ran my bike at 65 to 85 for an hour then at idle while i checked temp 190 dgrees with outside temp at 65,i ran this by harley guy at shop and i could see his wheels turning but didnt want to give me a yay or nay still in the trial period looking for some input good idea or bad my crashbar is hot to the touch and id like to believe a better oil cooler then the 300 dollar from harley

I just called Harley out of curiosity.... I just bought a digital dipstick yesterday from there. I saw 244 (here in Florida) yesterday. I asked what was an "acceptable" high end with Screamin' Eagle Synthetic...and was told 350. He said if I were to see 350, I chould bing it in to be checked. But obviously in order to check it with the digital dipstick, I need to be stopped. So I am sure the temp starts to rise from what it was prior to stopping.
