Its simple. The bike sounds better, looks better and I can tune it with a screwdriver.

I don't know!? My TMax is pretty simple to tune and just hit the start button and go beats dicking around with a enricher (choke if you prefer) Swapping to a carb is like chucking your cell phone and only using land lines. EFI isn't all that complicated. A simple google search and you find things like this http://www.nightrider.com/biketech/m...efi_basics.htm.

AMEN!

I think a lot of people simply are addicted to gadgets and computers and can't get away from them long enough to ride, for riding is really all about.

Biggest problem I see with EFI is that about everyone who gets a Harley immediately wants to change the mufflers and make a lot of noise, change the air cleaner because everybody thinks you have to (?) for more power and then you're spending untold dollars and hours trying to find a "program" that will make it all work. And of course they all got to have a "cam" (sorry, they all have one from the factory anyway) DUH!

But, if you don't monkey around with anything and leave your bike pretty much factory stock, EFI is probably a really good thing....

Properly tuned, carbs are just as efficient. They get upwards of 50 mpg and require only a screwdriver for maintenance and tuning.

You guys are all correct.

I don't have a cell phone. I don't even have a watch. I don't have the clock set on the bike.

Only reason I took the trouble to try and understand EFI was to simplify my life.
Actually.Everytime I turned around it was underfoot screwing my life up it seemed. Getting in the way of what I really wanted to do.

Seriously hate that "Check Engine" light. Had to make it go away.
This problem started in 1986 when I got a 1980 California Oldsmobile Cutless Surpreme for my boy. God knows what that thing was doing in SE Texas. First thing I ever saw with a "check engine" light. Had a Computerised Carburator. Son of a gun.

Had to get ahead of it, so I could go back to drinking beer.

Every previous bike I have owned had carbs. Both my dirt bikes have carbs and my Son's bike has a carb. Yes, changing jets, accelerator pumps (when applicable) and needle hight is not compacted. Nor is using a choke. I stated my personal opinion. Maybe being a auto tech. for the last 22 years gives me an advantage knowing EFI and the distinct advantages of FI. But that is just me. You have 1/2 the folk bitching about how antiquated a Harley is and the other 1/2 cherishing old school. Neither phases me since I am proficient in both.
And the cell phone comment only applies to the a$$holes driving and using one at the same time. I know my 11 year old son appreciates me having one or I couldn't have brought him lunch for a field trip today. Or when my 17 year old daughter had a flat tire and needed daddy to rescue her.

I ask this because EFI 'IS' the way to go. Now notice I did not say 'stock' EFI ...

With the modern EFI tuners, you can change virtually everything to match your riding style and modifications to the bike.

I agree, and I too ask WHY?

EFI, set up properly is the way to go, you cant beat it for cold starting, driveability and economy.

For every complaint of an EFI bike not running properly, I can dig up a complaint of a carb not idling, flat spots, flooding, loading up and on and on. It doesn't make sense to me.
