My buddy has the Elite 3 on his custom. He tells me he will be going back to the D407 as well. I'm happy with the wear. I get roughly 10,000 on the back and 20,000 on the front. Metzler and Avon can't touch those numbers. But that is my riding style that allowes me to get that many miles. I will be sticking with the D407's.... With there Dual compound, it is hard to beat there longevity. Now the problem is just getting them without going threw the Stealership.

Actually the tread center is a harder higher milage compound and the outside of the tread, not the sidewall is softer. The side wall is the same as before but there is an extra ply of cord in the carcass. The compound is the same as some of the racing tires we are making. I know since I make the tread and sidewall at the Dunlop plant in Buffalo,NY.

Can ya give us any insight of why we can only get the D407 & D407F at a Dealership?

I'm not sure but I can assume it's because Dunlop and HD devloped this tire as a team so maybe the dealers get them first right now. I do know that we can't make enough of these tires too. I don't think we can make enough of these to meet demand.

I just ordered a rear 180/55/18 D407 from americanmototire.com on friday for $168. Check and see if they have the size you need.

When Harley used the D205, it was marked with Harley and that tire was developed by Harley and Dunlop and sold exclusively to Harley. Harley used this 200mm tire on 2006 and some early 2007 models and then switched to the joint designed D407. Once Harley moved to using the D407, Harley no longer had exclusive rights to the D205 and you started seeing it being offered by 3rd party vendors, don't know if the D205 still has the Harley mark. Now the D407 is exclusively used by Harley and I doubt you will find it being sold by anybody but Harley.

I got 12K miles on the original D205 and it looks like I will get 12K on the D407. I feel no difference between these tires and they seem so far to be wearing at the same rate.
