Default new radio

I'm having issues with the factory radio on my 09 StreetGlide and I'm thinking about upgrading to a Sony(Marine) unit and using the adapter from hawg wired to allow me to use my hand controls still...
Is anyone out there running a marine radio?Do they hold up to daily use in the rain? and is anyone running the hawg wired setup for there hand controls...I know the radio is covered under warrenty and I'm given the dealer 2 weeks to make this right...problem is the service dept wants to send the unit in and I'll be looking at a hole in the fairing or major down time...trying to work it out so the factory sends a new unit and takes mine after the swap...we'll see...Oh and I had a cracked fairing mount...never dropped the bike or even hit a big pothole that I can recall...I got the old well sometimes these things happen crap...Nothing should happen on an 8 month old bike...You don't get much for twenty grand anymore...anyway sony feedback please

Thumbs down void void your warranty

Brand new bike, having issues, dont want the dealer to fix...... sounds normal, however thats why you have a warranty. so the dealer warranties the manufacturers mistakes. Dont tell me you got the extended warranty too and you want to go to a cheap sony........

Got a Sony marine in my boat and it's a POS. That doesn't mean they all are of course but I would not buy another one.

Default pioneer w/ arc amp and 6-1/2"

I bought a pioneer deck and Arc amp and 61/2" speakers from firecap, it sounds incredible. I had the stock deck w/ the 150W hawg-wired system and it was preety good, then got a wild hair and sold the wawg-wired system and bought the works from fireacap. I sold the stock radio for $375.00 and ate it on the hawg-wired system. All in all, I'm real happy with mine. No idea about the rain, but occasional splash from washing has not hurt it. He has the plug and play wiring harness for hand controls too. It even works my Ipod. Don't let anyone tell you different, the stock stereo is not all that good. For one, when you hook and amp to it, you have to use the high input, which the amp inturn, amplifies the power coming out of your stock radio. This causes unnecassary distortion. Go for the after market radio, they are just better.

Pioneer model- DEH-P5100UB Firecap recommended it, and I am very happy with it so far. A big improvement over the stock unit.

Ya Wayne got it for me, same one in his bike. I'm not sure about the blue, I haven't looked into it. I'll post an answer after I check into that for you. The 6-1/2" speakers rock. What a big difference, you will be happy with them. I just ordered a pair of Focal speakers to try, really pricey, but they sound unreal and handle more power than the Arc speakers. Nothing wrong with the arc's, just can't leave anything alone.

There is a usb in the back, that I hooked up my I-pod to and also a usb on the front. I downloaded my I-tunes onto a 2GB stick and it will play like an I-pod. So I-pod really not even needed. I am going to put an XM radio module on it next, really nice, cause the radio shows the XM on it too, no need to even see the XM unit, going to put it in one of my bags.

I went to a Biketronics/Sony set-up on my Ultra two years ago, and I must say it blows the stock radio out of the water! Biketronics offers several different stereos that are compatible with their module. I still have speed compensated volume and my thumb controls! You don't need to go to a marine grade radio, they offer a cover with the install kit. Lots of good stereo options out there, just do a search or get with Pez or Gtsdesigns or Firecap. All have a line on some great products and great advice.
