I will be the first to invite you to take 2 weeks off from work in order to allow time to read everything that comes up with a search of all forums here...engine as well as the first forum on primary, clutch etc . There are still some holdouts, but personally I feel there are NO disadvantages to synthetic except price and that can be eased some by extending interval a bit. Regardless of what some respected car manufacturers are doing I feel a short breaking in period with "normal" oil is warranted to seat rings easier and quicker. In the Deuce all 3 holes get it...quiet, shifts better and easy to remember which can goes where. I buy it in gallon or 5 quart size. The Sportster gets it in motor with Harley's chain stuff in case..but want to try it everywhere in that bike too one day. In my case I use discount store Mobil One 20-50 or ( oh no ) 15-50, whatever is on shelf. Synthetic has gone in everything I drive that requires oil pretty much since synthetic became available, manual transmissions and differentials included. Other uses are my kicker on the sailboat, my mower and the hinges on the laundry room door. John

Hi, I use Mobil 1 V-twin 20/50 which I get from www.trojan-horse.co.uk in the engine & Sectro 6 speed heavy duty platinum 75/140 which I get from www.hogbitz.com in the Trans.
I keep to the standard Harley oil for the clutch side.
I have a 2009 Road King currently, I used the same oil setup in my last bike - 2008 Night Train and have found these oils to be the best for me.

I'll chime in here. I've been riding motorcycles for 47 years. Up until last year, I ran dino oil in every one of them. I never have had ANY oil related problems......EVER. I still feel that dino oil, changed at 2500-3,000 miles with filter, will do the job. I bought a new SuperGlide last year, and just because of my age and my back, will perhaps be my last motorcycle purchase. I use Mobil 1 V-Twin in it. I DO NOT like AMSOIL at all. It has nothing to do with the "product" but EVERYTHING to do with how it's marketed. If I could go to my local Walmart, AutoZone, or parts store and buy Amsoil, I might, but, you can spin it any way you want, Amsoil is pyramid sales, and I would NEVER buy it because of that. Besides, Mobil 1 V-Twin is just as good or better than Amsoil, and I don't have to deal with all the BS that you get with Amsoil.
Question................WHY doesn't Amsoil, if it's SO good, just sell it's oil at the local store like everyone else? Hmmmmm?

Since this message is a current one. I have a question related. I was at the steeler the other day and I overheard the service manager and one of the wrenches talking about a customers bike. They were doing a oil change and the customer did not specify synthetic. They debated about what type they should use. Ultimately the service manager said "its his first bike, so lets NOT do synthetic or he will start hearing things!" Like the customer would be a pain in the ars with lots of questions about hearing "noises" with the use of synthetics.
Can anyone explain this?

To keep this as short as I can, there is one guy on this forum who said he used the SE synthetic in all 3 holes. (engine, trans, primary). It doesnt' seem more simple than that.
I don't know why some guys insist on using 3 differnt oils, more a pain in the butt than anything.
The trouble with Amsoil is you MUST order it, you can not just go into a store and buy it. If you are on a trip and need an oil change, where you gonna get it?
Mobil 1 v-twin is almost as bad, not many store carry it.
The nice thing about Harley oil is you can find it at ANY Harley dealer. Just seems to make life easier, not having to find 3 different oil at 3 different retailers.
