Question Another option besides Head Trip Helmets?

I really like the Head Trip helmets but at $190 a piece, am just wondering if anyone has found something very similar that isn't so pricey. I like how low profile they are. Just checking before I drop that kind of cash on one. Yeah, I know, my head should be worth it. I've been riding in a Fulmer half for the past three years but coming home from our latest road trip it drove me nuts. The padding has settled or something and it kept riding back on my head and cutting into my forehead so it's time for something else and I still want a DOT helmet. Thanks for any input.

I'm real happy with the Vega XTS Naked. Not as small as a Head Trip but it's comfortable & doesn't catch the wind. Some of the new 09 XTS models are nice too. I like the Tribal pinstrip on the XTS Naked. The finish is outstanding for 70.00. The ear warmers are great to for early morning rides. They just slip in at 5 bucks, well worth it. For both at 75, the shipping was free.

I got mine here with the ear warmers

As for size, I'm a 23.75" & the XL is perfect. They come with extra foam if you need it. My only complaint is the extra long strap. I took mine to a seamstress & she sewed 2 pieces of velcro to the strap. One at the end & the mating side under the chin so I just slip it over my head, tighten & press the end under my chin. Total cost, 3.00. She also put 2 small pieces on the inner ear strap to hold the ear warmers in securely.

Yup, Vega XTS or the HCI shorties are the closest you'll prob get to DOT head trip helmets

Hi Georgia Girl, I know what you mean about the price. However, before I bought mine I looked for months and tried on so many helmets I can't believe it. I have not been able to find another DOT half helmet that fits the way the Head Trip helmet does. Every one that I tried on still had the mushroom look when I put it on. Maybe you'll hear from someone else that has found an alternative but I could not. By the way, not only does the Head Trip fit well and have a low profile but it's also VERY light, maybe the lightest helmet I've ever owned.

Thanks gb, but it looks exactly like my Fulmer. Can't beat the price though.

If you mention you are a forum member you can get a 10% discount. Not much but it helps.

Damn it! I knew you were going to say that. I'm still interested to see if someone has scoped out a similar option for a little less but I take your point. I have seen them on eBay from time to time, but without getting to try it on first and no return policy, haven't gone down that path, yet. Thanks!

The naked model is closer to the head trip. The standard XTS looks like the Fulmer.
