Help ? on a 03 Sportster 1200 not starting after warm?
Hello im new to the forum and my friends sporty is not starting after its warm. It starts right up when cold and runs great all day but if you stop and shut it off. And go to start it up when hot it will just turn over and not start till its cools down a bit. Thanks in advance guys
You need to check what's going on when it won't start... No ignition? When it gets warm does it stall out or quit running? Is it flodding out? There are many things that could cause that problem. Check ground connections. Are battery connections clean? and use dielectric grease on electrical connections.
You just need to do a bit of troubleshooting and give more symtoms.
Sounds like a vapor lock issue to me. (If the fuel line sits too close to a heated area, and if fuel is not moving through that line - like when you shut it down - the fuel in that stretch of line vaporizes. Or maybe even in the carb feed or bowl.)
Are these bikes known for that?
Also, check the plugs. If they're fouled, the bike may start up cold because you pull the enrichener **** to choke the carb, but you wouldn't do that when it's warm.
A big +1 on what the others have said.....You have to dig deeper into it to figure it out. It's not the battery if it's turning over fine. You have to check the plugs to see if you're getting spark when turning over, check for fuel or no fuel, etc. It could be a combination of items.
