Default Stage I Without Download or Remap?

OK...so American Iron has said that Stage I can be done on an '07 and later TwinCam without changing the EFI setup, with no negative results...

I plan on installing Thundermax w/Autotune eventually, but can't really afford it for a few months. I've got new exhaust on the bike, and XIEDs to enrich the AFR.......can I add an A/C like the SE kit or Arlen Ness Big Sucker, or do you guys think that'd cause issues?

Like I said...AIM says it's fine, but I wanted to get opinions here, too.

i read that also, everyone disagred with it?

i was looking in a jp cycles catalod and in exhaust SS has a quick set up kit that has mufflers and a/c with backing plats, it says

"they have found that closed loop efi units can easly compensate for the changes in fuel requirement changes for the quick set up kit".

dealer says one thing the adds and articles say diffrent.

I just want to be sure.

I think the dealers say that you need something to compensate for the Stage I change, but don't know any better. They seem to be that way with a lot of stuff....and I trust the AIM techs over Joe Tentpeg at the dealership.

I think people here generally have gotten used to the idea of EFI bikes needing a remap/download for Stage I....that it just comes with the territory basically, but then it's not really been widely advertised that '07+ closed loop bikes don't need it.

Adding just exhaust doesn't make a huge difference, but if I add the high-flow filter the extra air might. Just curious before I do it.

Rode my WG for 4 weeeks with A/C , V/H slip-ons . No issues what so ever. One dealer said i didnt need any download or nothing else. The next guy down the road 30 miles away said i was going to burn it down. I think honestly its a money thing. That ECM will adjust. Will bike run at its peak ? NO but it wont melt down either. I have added a set of IEDs .13000 plus miles and still setting off car alarms. The guy at AIM has it right.

Rock, I had the slip on’s when i got the bike, installed the stage1 ac, and xied, I rod it to the dealer and it was great, louder, much better throttle response, I got the stage1, and rode home feeling like I just pissed the money away,
I really could not tell the difference before and after.

Now that is slip on’s, and not your thunder header.

but that was my experience, well, it did raise the rev limit, but i really didnt need that.

edit 4/06/2009 i have since removed the xied's and only change is less surging..?
anyway others might be interested if they read the thread.

Yeah, if I'd opted for slipons I'd have probably been fine with just the XIEDs. There's some guys here on the board that were even able to go with a complete exhaust swap and just XIEDs...the Thunderheaders seem to be a bit too much of a change for them to adjust though. I've got a Thundermax kit on the way...should solve all my problems.

This is what I have been told be a very reputable mech. Not all Closed loop systems are the same.

A closed loop system with wide band O2 sensors would not need a download. However, the 07 HD bikes have narrow band O2 sensors and cannot accommodate the extra flow from a high flow air cleaner without an adjustment. Yes you will have more power but you will be running way too lean and will eventually cause valve and engine damage.

Keep in mind that the "Closed Loop" operating system has a narrow window that it controls (mostly @ cruise) and will only adjust to a a certain limited amount. At wide open throttle and heavy loads, the ecm is in "Open Loop" and runs on a predetermined map in the ecm. XIEDs are basically a resistor to "trick" the signal from the 02 sensors to the ecm making it appear that the signal is leaner than it is thus causing the ecm to richen the mixture in "closed loop" in "open loop" the XIEDs change nothing.

Being an ASE Certified Master Auto Technician for 20 years, I know on every fuel injected car/truck i've ever owned I never had to do anything to the ecm when i did a K&N a/f and a Flowmaster on any closed loop system.

I was wondering the same question on my 09 since it has the same closed loop system as my 04 Silverado. Some say the download alone, some say race tuner some say it will compensate as it has wide band 02's.

I don't know who to believe. I put slipons on my bike a few days ago now I want to do the a/c but want facts, not money sucking BS!

Delphi ecm... check

delphi fuel injectors... check

delphi wide band 02 sensors.. check

delphi map and crank sensors... check

you would think with today's technology that the ecm would pickup on the increased air flow and richen the system up.

It's the same fuel managment system that's in my 04 silverado for christs sake!!
