I tried to work this out at the last Ocala event and PoorBoy & I have tried to address the same issue for the Maggie Valley trip. Here's the problem.
Our rides at these events literally cover hundreds of square miles on smaller secondary roads. If you have ever used Mapquest, Google Maps, etc. you know that to see these smaller roads and their name/numbers requires you to zoom-in to a section of the map that covers only a portion of the total route area. When you zoom back out to the point that the entire route is visable and where the map can be printed, the road details, names/numbers disappear. This is why regular foldup paper road maps are like 3' x 3' unfolded.
Last year we had about 6 different ride routes available. While it is possible to take a regular fold-up paper map and draw a route on it with a high-liter, we're talking half a dozen different route maps times (40?) copies.
The only solution I can suggest at this point (for the GPS challenged
) would be for someone to volunteer to take the route files and convert them to something like HD Ride Planner files that can be accessed by everyone on the net and then let everyone be responsible for getting their own paper maps and marking them up by hand with the routes ahead of time.Again, I'm certainly open to any ideas on how to do this a better way, so lets hear your suggestions.
Maybe someone in the group has access to a 36+" flat bed inkjet printer/plotter and compatible map software that can run off 40+ maps with half a dozen different routes?

I agree about the routes. It is very hard to print multiple maps for everyone. I do have a suggestion. I can print out a group sheet with one leader for each group. On the Friday night, a goup of people who are willing to be group leaders meet in the meeting room. We can assign one person per page, and post the pages in the room with maps so everyone can get an idea of the routes. There will be a designated time to meet. We will try to have early groups and late groups (for the riders like Sleepman <---- or Passoutman). Does that work?

I totally agree with cHarley, we're into this pretty thick for the up-coming mountain romp in NC & TN. For Ocala, I like the idea of having ride captains that can be available before the ride to discuss route options and details.
On other topics:
a. I like November 13th - 15th
b. Slow ride is a must. (but we can't let a girl win.....heeeeeeee hee heeeeeeeeee)
c. I thought the hotel was going to try for vendors being there this year(?)
d. We need to find table games that Dale will lose at.
e. I will chip-in for oysters, beer, t-shirt, plaques, and hookers that Dale finds.
f. I look forward to border patrol duties again. (greeting folks at GA/FL state line).
I can't get too excited for this one yet, in a couple of weeks I am joining folks to go up to slay the Dragon.

As related to the map/GPS, I think the group captain or however is mapping out the ride should take a old school map and highlight the ride. We could hang these on the wall in the meeting room with the ride captains name and the crew members could put their name on the list for the ride he or she want to ride. That way the ride captain has a list of who is riding with him and can set a departure time.

That would be perfect for me. As long as i know where I am going ahead of time.
