Default Safe Bike Parking when traveling?

Hey all, gonna take a spring break ride for a couple days with my friend down to Charleston, SC. My question is this: I havent really gone on any multi-day trips with the bike, and I was wondering what are precautions to take when parking your bike outside a hotel. Is there any common procedure or things you guys look for when looking for a hotel in regards to the saftey of leaving your bike outside for a night?

I always try to park near the front door. I would ask the clerk for permission and they always gave it. I figure there is always someone on duty there. Lock it and set the alarm. That's about all you can do.

I prefer Motels (especially the Mom and Pop variety) and park right outside the door covered with a NON-Harley Davidson cover with the alarm set .

I try to get a ground floor room and park right outside the window. If I have to take an upstairs, I ask to park by the door. I then lock, Alarm, and use a 6 ft. cable (HD #46089-98 ) its 20mm and made by the Kyrptonite lock company. If possible, I cable it to a post, otherwise I cable it to another bike if I have a partner riding with me.

Ground floor. Park by door or window. Wheel lock. Pistol. Take your stuff inside. Make sure your insurance is paid up. If stolen, buy a new one.

We always park next to our room on ground floor or ask the night clerk to park next to the front door, they always say yes. I've even had some tell me where to park before I ask so they can watch them or have security watch them.

If more than one bike, chain them together in an in convient way. Always chain the wheels to the bike...I found that chaining them so they have to steal two or more at a time that they will leave them alone. Remember the thieft has to be done quickly before they get noticed. And always remove everything from the bike and take it in your room.
Don't forget to lock the stearing head!!!

I always park near the front door and under the overhang. I have never had a clerk tell me no, even at a couple of very nice hotels.
