I finally got to hear these muffs with someone else riding my bike. I took it to the dealer for the 1000 mile service today and I got to hear it when the tech took it for a test ride after he finished working on it.
A Road King with Rineharts had just fired up and pulled off when the tech came rumbling out of the shop with my bike, and I have to tell you, these muffs are deeper than the Rineharts were on that RK. I could not help but grin when the guy took off on my bike. Damn, it sounds good. Better than I ever imagined it would when I first thought about doing this mod.

Same basic design, but I think the SE II baffles are 1-3/4" while these are 1-7/8". Also, I think these have more exit holes.

At this point you can just put the new baffles in, but they will rattle if you don't do this next step:
The internal head pipe inside the muffler that the original baffle slips over is 1-5/8" OD to accept a 1-3/4" OD pipe, which has an ID of 1-5/8". The ID of the header end of the Cycle Shack baffles if 1-7/8" ID tapering to 1-3/4" ID. So I had to get a piece of straight 1-3/4" OD and fit it inside the header end of the baffle so the baffle would fit snugly over the internal header pipe inside the muffler. This prevents rattles.

Do you just leave the glass packing unsecured or did you attach it somehow?
I will be ordering a pair of these baffles this weekend. One of my bros has Rhineharts on his Duece. I'd love to be just a little louder than that. Sounds like exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks for the post man.

As for the glass packing, just cut off the correct amount so that when you roll it up it forms a single layer against the inside of the muffler can. (Stock, it's a double layer.) Use a long ratchet extension or a long screwdriver to press the matting against the inside of the muffler can after you slide it in. Then slide the baffle in being careful not to snag the mat.
These modified muffs are real Jekyll and Hyde when it comes to how loud they are. At idle they have a nice deep rumble that's not too loud at all. When you get into the throttle, they are as loud as any aftermarket exhaust I've ever heard on a Harley. I mean a deep, ear splitting roar that will wake the dead in the next county. How loud they are on acceleration is totally dependent on your right hand. You can be as discrete or as obnoxious as you want to be. But if you're just cruising along in 5th or 6th you just hear a distant rumble over the wind noise. But crack the throttle and it's wake the dead time again.

Just read the whole post. Nice job. Now to be correct, this removable baffle is only an option on the new 09 Street bob mufflers? Amazed to see a stock mufler with a somewhat removable baffle that isn't welded in anymore.
If so this gives the stock 09 FXDB muffs some future mod potential.

I think the Fat Bob muffler's baffles are held in by rivets, too. The replacement baffles I used won't work in the FB muffs, however, because they would be too short. You would need to measure the length of the FB baffles and order the correct length Cycle Shack replacement baffles (if they even make any that are the correct length).
