Capn_buzzcut has the Mascot in Eden, NC. He's going to the Cherokee Rally this weekend and is going to try and pass it off to someone headed to Myrtle Beach. It's my understanding that if he can't pass it off this weekend, he'll be bringing to MB the second weekend of the rally.

Just to keep everyone posted on the status of the Mascot, I picked it up from Capn_buzzcut today. We met in Mount Airy, NC and I had lunch with he and his lovely daughter at the Snappy Lunch. Great guy and a very nice '06 Road King on which he's already rolled up 10,000 miles (you're the man, Jim).

I'll try and get together some maps of the Mascot travels to post. But, it may take a few days. Jim's daughter took a picture of us making the exchange on Main Street in Mount Airy. Hopefully he'll be able to post that as well.

Anyway, I carried the Mascot back to Hickory, NC with me. Tomorrow (actually later today as it just turned midnight) I'll be leaving to take it back to Hartsville, SC with me and then on to Myrtle Beach on Friday when I head down for Bike Week.

The current plan is to have the Mascot at the Meet and Greet on Saturday, May 13th at 2 PM (Broadway at the Beach, Parking lot between Hard Rock and Charleston Boardwalk). We'll hang out in the parking lot so that folks will have a chance to meet. Then, we'll go on a short Mascot ride, come back to Broadway at the Beach, take pictures of everyone with the Mascot (I'm thinking on the front steps of the Hard Rock Cafe), and then have a signing party (hopefully in the Hard Rock if it's okay with them).

Same plan for the following Saturday (same time except at SBB new location).

At the second Meet and Greet, Mascot ride, and signing party, I'll pass the Mascot off to Crash and he'll head to the Northeast with it.

So, there you have it. Hope to see as many of you as possible in MB. Looking forward to a great time. Be safe on the ride to Myrtle.

5 weeks makes you a LEGAL resident in some states - why does it need to stay so long?

Other tips for Road Captains planning their Mascot Rides:

If possible try to limit the number of days the Mascot is at the rally so it does not stay stagnet too long. 2-3 days should be enough.[sm=proof.gif][sm=deadhorse.gif]
Ideally you should schedule one day when all the HDForums members attending the rally can be present for the Mascot ride. At the end of the ride, preferabley at a suitable party location, everyone will sign the Mascot and have a picture taken and then procede to get down and party. This should theoreticlly be able to be accomplished in one day. Afterwards, it should be moved out with someone who is heading in the direction where the mascot is scheduled to go next.

wow = this is gettin sad - I used to live in NC - been to MB - what is soooooooo special that the Mascott has to stay in state for what will end up being 5 weeks - looks like June before it leave the south and then guess what - the Mid west rally is going to need it - MABE WE WILL MAIL IT THERE - wouldn't that be special hahahahaha

why not at least see if there are any members who live near ya and get it moving in State??

It would be nice if the Mascot could be continually moving. However, sometimes there's just no one available to pass it off to in the direction that it needs to be headed. We knew that we wanted to head up north and we knew that there would be someone at Myrtle Beach that was headed back up north. Capn_buzzcut tried to find someone to pass it off to in Cherokee the other weekend that was headed to MB the first weekend (since he wasn't going until the second weekend). There was no one.

So, I rode my motorcycle home this weekend just to pick up the Mascot from Capn_buzzcut, knowing before I left that it was going to be a crappy weekend to ride (otherwise I would have driven my car home). But, it was going to be the last opportunity to pass the Mascot off before Myrtle Beach. Otherwise, it would not make it to MB until the 19th where we could find someone to pass it off to. So, I rode 135 miles home, 180 miles out of my way yesterday, and 135 miles back to SC in a cold rain today (no windshield, no fairing) just so the Mascot could be moved. I did it because I thought it was in the best interest of a large number of HD Forum members.

Quite honestly, I'm sick of of all the whining about the Mascot and at this point I could care less if it makes it to Myrtle Beach, or to the Northeast, or anywhere else for that matter. If one of you guys wants it, get approval from SKJOLD to move it and come get the damn thing right now!

I Bolded three points of your post Fletch:
The first - in the direction that it needs to be headed. Why does "Rallies"dictate the move? - only SKJOLD can answer this as it seams to heve origonated with his posting the "Schedual" - personally - I think it stinks

Second - I rode 135 miles home, 180 miles out of my way yesterday, and 135 miles back to SC in a cold rain today (no windshield, no fairing) just so the Mascot could be moved. Sounds like an awsome ride and no I am not being a smart ars - I ride just as you describe

Last - Quite honestly, I'm sick of of all the whining about the Mascot [sm=deadhorse.gif]

my .02 -skip the rallies and keep it moving

Why does "Rallies"dictate the move?
First off, the Mascot is moving. It hasn't just been sitting around waiting for MB to happen. The problem is that it's not moving in the direction that we ultimately want it to head right now. Why? Because there's no one to pass it off to that's headed north.

The fact that the Mascot is going to Myrtle Beach and the fact that there will be Mascot rides while it's there is really secondary. The primary reason for getting it to MB, IMHO, is to get in the hands of someone headed to the Northeast. So what if it stays a few extra days to allow HD Formum members to ride with the Mascot and sign it while it's there. That's the whole purpose of the Mascot anyway. If you want to deny some HD Forum members the opportunity to ride the Mascot so it can head to the Northeast a few days earlier than it would have otherwise, take it up with SKJOLD.

I disagree about the rallies. I see rallies, especially large regional or national rallies, as an opportunity to move the Mascot from one area to another more quickly (MB is a case in point). If it weren't going to MB, it would still be sitting in NC waiting to be passed off to someone headed to Virginia, then to Maryland, etc. And, who knows how long that would take?

So, to answer your question. The MB Rally is dictating the move because it's the quickest way to get it to the Northeast. It can certainly skip MB but, it will take about twice as long to get it out of here and headed north. Unless of course you want to quit talking about it, hop on your bike, and come get it.

fletch your posting some good points, some really good ones.
me, im not upset, i hate politics for just this reason
my only true gripe, is that WAYYYY back in march, the plan was agreed upon, that
it only spent the first weekend in mb, then, 2 weeks ago, that all went to ****
i could care less how long it spends anywhere, but, would like to see it move, not be stagnet
for the extra weekend.
i also have a sm prob, that the person who i thought was supposed to be handling these
differences of opinion, and thats all it is, is not even chimed in yet.
whatever it takes man, this is supposed to be fun, but its getting heated.
i didnt like some of the pm's i got regarding this, and i m not mentioning which ones by whom, but i
didnt appreciate them, you know who wrote them know what im talking about

i do, by all means, feel there is finally a solid plan on the movement, and so be it, crash is bringing it up to PA, them i believe crash is handing off to cmbucky.
im thinking about taking the ride with cmbucky to meet with crash, ride it east and keep goin
this will come together

still sucks its sitting the extra weekend

see ya's in mb

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, the plan that was agreed upon based on SKJOLD's belief that you were going to be there both weekends. Even though you CLEARLY stated that you were only going to be there the first weekend. That being the case, this has all been the result of a simple misunderstanding.

i also have a sm prob, that the person who i thought was supposed to be handling these
differences of opinion, and thats all it is, is not even chimed in yet.

I didn't realize that you were getting PMs on this. I now understand your frustration and desire to wash your hands of it completely. I'm feeling the same way. By the time all this is over, I probably won't be following the Mascot forum anymore.

I know this is really nit picky but, since you weren't going to leave MB till the 16th and it's now going to leave on the 21st, it's an extra five days and not a full week. Unless someone in the Northeast is planning to die or move to Europe during that time, I don't understand why they'd care if it stayed an extra 5 days. It would be different if it was going to stay an extra five days and there wasn't a plan for moving it after that. Then I could understand folks being upset.
