Default oversized piston for tc 88?

can you rebuild just the top end, and if so what cams would be best?

Default Overbore/cam

J&E 3.935" puts you at 98", and a Wood 6 cam, Andrews 37, 54, or R&R525.
Any/all will impress you.

all I see at J&E is STD and 3.770 bore for TC88? And do I take my jugs (with my new pistons) to a dealer for boring?

J&E may not list the 3 15/16" bore pistons, as is it limited production. CP manufactures that bore size as well.
You can take them to your local dealer, if in fact they are equipped to handle that type of work, but to the best of my knowledge, not many do. Parts replacement is what their geared for.

Yes, always make sure the place thats boring out your jugs has your pistons in hand as well to make sure piston to wall specs are correct. Make sure the place boring out your stock jugs also use torque plates as well. Surprisingly, many places dont use torque plates when boring out jugs.

Default Cylinder Boring

Fitting pistons to cylinders is about as hard as watching grass grow.
Been doing it for well over 25 years. Piece of cake, in comparison to machining the drive shaft ship-sets for the AH-64 Apache Attack Helicopters, or the starter motor assemblys for the General Electric 404 Turbo-Fan jet engines.
Dedicated fixtures for Iron XL's to 3 1/2", Shovels, Evo Big Twins, and Evo XL's to 3 13/16",
and T/C's to 4 1/8" Harley bolt pattern, as well as S&S,that are bored on a 15" LeBlond engine lathe, then sized, in torque plates, in our Sunnen hone. Monitored with a Starrett dial bore guage, while boring and honing.
Have also bored them in our 24" H.E.S.(that lathe has a .0001" dial that is seperately engaged) as well, if the LeBlond, Clausing, Rockwell,or Warner-Swasey lathes are tied up.
Always remember, that proper prior planning, prevents ****-poor procedure.
Cheers,
Scott
