The main reason guys are changing out the stock 2-1-2 header is because the cat. convert. is located in the header. You can change the sound to a certain point, but it will still suck when you are looking for performance. I'm going to wait till next spring to see what comes out for the 09's. Leaning on the V&H Power Dual with the basic slip-on's. The main reason is V&H have 4" mufflers.
Maxx
what catalytic converter? this is the 1st I've heard about any cat.
My '07 UC had Bassini mufflers along with PCIII and stage 1 AC. It ran great until I put the true dual (Bassini) pipes. When I did that the low end torque went away while the rest was improved. I always had to get the revs up a bit to take off from a stop or it would rattle something awful. Yes it was dyno tuned too. My '09 SG is all stock except for the 2" baffle Rush slip-ons that I set up yesterday. Sounds much better and runs fine. I'm done for a while. In this economy I can't see myself blowing the bucks on an air cleaner and Power Commander V (when available) to pick up an extra few HP. The bike is fast enough for road use. Right noiw I'm satisfied.
Sorry, but that is a big negative with the cat only on Cali bikes. Take off the right side slip-on muffler and look into the header. You will see it. I wish it wasn't so. By the MOCO doing this it cost me a extra $590 for a new header or more for tru-duals.
Take a look at the links I posted. It has pictures of the cat.
V&H FuelPak w/ Monster 0vals & Zippers A/C.............SWEET!!!!!!!!Regards,Tom ps:V&H has 2 new Dual Header systems comming,PowerDuals & DresserDuals for the 09s.

Tom, what is the best setup for a 09 SERG? I want loud and performance. Muffler has to be 4" to fill in the holes where the bag extensions come down.
Are you kidding me? I can't see how these bike's breath at all with that 'sponge" stuffed in the collector. I knew there was a cat in the collector but until seeing that link C17MSGT posted I had no idea it was as dense and long as it is. I just recieved a set of Bub 7 slip-on's and they'll go on for now but as soon as the new ThunderMax becomes available, I'll be standing in line for a set of tru-duals and these slip-on's get posted here in the classifieds....What's next, a stinkin' radiator
Happy Thanksgiving all........Putt
