If runout is that far out a new motor will be ordered? When was bike built? How about posting that info on NHSTA site where it will do yourself and others some good. Ranting here relieves stress but doesnt show the world that HD has a problem they are turning their backs on.

NHTSA, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
And now that you mention it, the owner of the independent shop who actually checked my bike said that he was just waiting to hear of a crank scissoring and blowing out the crankcase causing rear wheel lockup on an oil slick. Don't that sound like fun!
I think I might check out their website out of pure spite, Thanks
The bikes at the dealer now, the first thing out of the techs mouth was "Oh I see you've replaced the exhaust" I can see this is going to get interesting...

Oh and Pittguy, I certainly hope it's engine replacement. The tech at the dealer admitted to several "Crank replacements" I don't think so....I'm concerned about what kind of damage this runout may have inflicted on the transmission and clutch assembly over 22,000 miles! This is my first rubber mount after 2 88B's and I thought it was pretty smooth on the road. We'll see what happens.

I have yet to read any runouts causing lockups but anything is possible.I think it would be be so unbearable to ride that it would send a red flag. Exh,upgrades usually depends on dealer but mainly the MoCo.maybe your motor will dig into tomorrow mornings quarter earning release. When was your bikes build date??? File the complant with the NHTSA.

I recently did a 07 Deluxe that belonged to a gal in Wood, South Dakota, she rode the bike here for an R&R stage 4- 95" install and had less than 4,000 miles on it. Crank runout was so bad it trashed the oil pump and cam plate. Even though it was a warranty issue the factory rep told her that they would fix it but she would get a like unit. She bit the bullet and had me true, plug, and weld here existing crank and install a timken bearing.

Isn't an '07 already a 96" engine?

My build date is 10/06...Should I assume the Monday after the drunken Halloween party?
I got some news from the dealer this morning, the 20 year old tech told the service manager to tell me that the primary side of the crank is fine and they will continue the investigation. Did you ever have a bad dream about the Three Stooges working on your vehicle?
I guess the compensator sprocket VISIBLY moving up and down was a figment of my imagination, oh well, dealer certified dial indicators don't lie!
I called HD customer service and advised them that I want to meet with a factory rep!

Probably not Halloween as that is on the last day of October. Sure could have been a Monday though...or a Friday. And we wonder why so many manufacturers are using foreign labor!

I'd tell the service manager that I wanted to SEE the runout first-hand! May not work but it's worth a try. And if they refuse, that's more information for Customer Service.

That's probably the best thing you can do. Customer Service is often very helpful as long as you're considerate and polite. And they have the power to get things done.

Good luck and keep us posted!
