I should add that it is allot of oil and that it is only at start up. Also that is has been happening since new back in 1989.Iknow that all of the older evos did it but how canI stop it. Washing the ride b4 every ride sucks.
My shovelhead did the same thing. It's a pain. My BIL tried to fix my with a trick an old shovelhead rider told him.Take a hammer and a drift and smack the ball into the seat and sometime it will stopthe problem. As long as it didn't sit for more than 4-5 days mine was OK. If it sat for over a week, I had a mess to clean.
When the oil start puking out I play hell trying to get it to stop. I am talking a long time to get it to stop.
So is there a spring to change or is it the ball seat?
LatelyI do not have the time to ride like I use to so spending a half hour to stop the puking, then the clean up is to much. I would rather fix the problem. And then live with just a little puking like it used to be.
From now on b4 starting the bike after sitting for a bit I will connect a hoseto the breather hose, then run it to the oil tank.
Run the bike until the puking stops. Connect the extension hose togetherto stop dirt from getting into it until next time, and go. If my theory works there will be no to little mess next time.
Pull the ball out check it for a flat spot or something irregular.Check out the seat area where it rides in .Clean out area real good.In your case I would buy the heavier spring they sell for this and it may solve your problem.I heavier spring will give an added benefit of giving you more oil pressure.Just looked it up:Crane High Pressure Spring,2-3 lbs. pressure increase. $7.99,thru J&P 740-526.I`ve had one of these in my `91 for the last 7-8 yrs. Everyone gets some blowout on on the bottom breather Evo`s.Mine is very minimal.(no messes).Good luck,Toby
I use a plastic soda bottle washed out real good with HOT water ,take off the hose from the breather an run it in there. When it quits pore it back in the tank. Then when u have time do what Toby said.
