Be careful what you agree with folks...imagine a highway where the speed limit is 65 when entering some po-dunk town the speed limit drops to 35 and Barnry Fife is standing there wit his radar gun...you just lost your bike. Maybe its a strech but I've seen bigger streches. I agree that somthing should be done about the idiots doing wheelies but I'm not willing to take the chance. Just my humble opinion.

I can't believe all of the guys on here signing up for this crap. Did you read the part about excessive speed? In many areas going 20 mph over the speed limit is considered excessive speed.

If a cop happens to catch you on radar passing another vehicle on a 2 lane highway and you exceed 20 mph over you would have no problem with them impounding your Harley, tossing you in the can and revoking your riding rights for 10 years?

I don't think it should only be for speeding or wheelies, how about we go all the way and include the cagers who are on the phone, puttin on make up, reading the news paper. How fast is recless. Where does it stop. Not letin anyone take my bike without a fight. I think there are alot more dangerous things going on then a hot shot on a wheelie. Just my 2 cents.

I'll add to that Jimmy....I have been known to stop in the middle of the road when some dip sh%t...normally a teenager....is running 2 feet of my bumper. I simply stop and ask the why they are stupid enough to think following close gets them there faster and what is improtant enough to risk the health of my family. (when in the cage) They never have an answer!!!!

...sounds like a good way of trying to get yourself shot in Florida. You might want to do a little research on self defense laws if you're going to try and be a bad *** and get out of your car. You'd be surprised at what you find out.

I wrote the representtive from Miami that introduced this bill and below is his reply. He replied to me 10 Oct 07, but there has been no change in the way the bill is written. I suggest everyone read the bill from Carlos Lopez-Cantera
Florida State Representative, District 113 (part of Miami).I suggesteveryone write him to let him know the bill needs to be re-written to not single out every motorcyclist. Damndrunk driving or dui doesn't get this much punishment in the state of Florida or anywhere else.
If this bill passes, it could make it to your community/state. If by some chance you get caught speeding down the road over the limit in this bill, you can loose your bike (taken by the state of Florida & loose your bike privlages for years). This is an unfair bill singling out ALL motorcyclist.

Thank you for taking the time to contact me regarding HB 137, Offenses Committed While Operating a Motorcycle. I realize some riders have several concerns regarding my legislation. This bill aims to address riders of high performance motorcycles that treat Florida's roads and highways as their own personal stunt track. I am sure you can agree that popping wheelies at high rates of speeds or any other kind of stunt riding has no place on Florida's roads. That is the type of reckless driving this bill seeks to address. The goal of this legislation is to target stunt riding and prevent motorcycle fatalities.
Currently, it seems HB 137 has been drafted in a way that would affect all motorcycle riders. I feel that the poor actions of a few riders should not punish all riders. Subsequently, I am currently working on language that will amend the bill to clearly address the problem of motorcycle stunt riding on public roads. The amendment will clearly define what is considered stunt riding and require a motorcycle rider to maintain two wheels on the ground at all times. The speeding focuses of the bill will not stand alone but will rather be in conjunction with stunt driving.
Thank you for expressing your concerns. They will definitely be taken into consideration. I recently met with James Reichenbach from ABATE, and after I explained the true intent of this legislation he told me that he would support it. I am open to meeting with any person or group to discuss amendments to the bill. I believe that part of the process of creating a great law is being open to the ideas of others.
If I can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact my office.
Sincerely,
Carlos Lopez-Cantera
State Representative, District 113
I think its high time that they address this problem and I'm glad to see that they're working at making the restrictions as tough as they can. It clearly states in this letter that they are working to amend the bill and that the speeding is in conjunction with stunt riding. In many parts of Florida they are already confiscating motorcycles and cars for street racing and that penalty alone is doing nothing to stop this behavior. It's about time that someone tries to get something done.
Amen brother!!

I don't have a problem with you protecting your own. My problem is with bullshit laws. Who's going to decide if I was going fast enough for the cops to try and take my bike? It's sorta like gun laws, there are enough laws on the books not getting enforced, but if some politician wants to make a point they come up with another law that would do the sme thing that's already out there. I guess I just don't know how bad the problem is down there. You see it here in NJ but I guess it's not that prevelant.

You are worried that some stunt rider doing a wheelie will endanger your kids but you cast that aside if you decide you want to run somebody off the road? You try to run a bike off the road and your kids could have the nightmare of watching you get shot.
