My 1998 Electra Glide Classic has just over 180,000 miles on the original motor. Original rings, pistons, heads, juggs....etc. The only thing I did....was that I replaced the INA cam bearing to the Torrington cam bearing. Still no leak, however the engine is just beginning to get a little weak. Yet, the fuel economy is still averages 50mpg.

Nothing but regular 20w50 in the summer and regular 15w40 for the winter.

You guys are posting up some great numbers. I will feel good if I go over 100k. Like ae4782tt said, I think that it would be cool if Moco awarded medallions for milestone mileage. But I think that would go counter to the "forced obsolescence" and "sell more bikes" marketing plan. Maybe the FORUM should. I wonder what the highest is.
Ozmodius at 130k and then EVOrider at 180k. That's impressive!
Wow, ae4782tt and Arizona, good going on the 300k plus vehicles. I take a lot of ribbing for being cheap and not getting rid of the 307k van. Luckily rust hasn't eaten it up here in Michigan.
Each month without a car payment leaves more money in the bike budget. Best off, the wife agrees.

"My last Toyota truck had 356,000 miles on it when I sold it and was still completely original bumper to bumper - no rebuilds at all, just a clutch change at about 300,000 miles."

Hey Arizona ---

I have a Toyota truck with 120,000 miles on it. Original clutch. No other problems except an o2 sensor at about 90 miles which is normal for them.

So you got to 300,000 miles on your original clutch? That is awesome. I have been wondering how many more miles I'd get out of mine. I am pretty smooth on it and thought it was all me! ha ha I guess the Toyota clutchs are pretty tough too?

I am hoping to get to 300,000 miles with no major problems. That is the goal. Then I'll sell it and buy a new one!

I have 112,xxx on my 1993 Heritage (without a rebuild) and it still runs great. I took it on a 1700 mile trip to the Dragon and through Tennessee in August and never worried about it. It ate the miles up and was ready for more when I got home.

Like someone mentioned, it all depends on how the engine is treated. The old biker I bought it from suggested getting a 10,000 mile service every spring and change the oil every 2500 miles.

My 1985 wide glide has over 150,000 miles, and I did a top end at 70,000 because the best mechanic in the land was retiring and I did it to be safe.

My 97 Ultra has a "Re-Man' at 66,000 and is currently getting overhaul at 140,000 miles. But I also carry a sidecar for about 5,000 miles year.

Default Rebuild

I don't own a Harley at the present time but I've owned 3 out of my 31 bikes. You have a valid question but let me answer from someone who has owned many metric bikes. It is not uncommon to see a BMW or Goldwing with 200,000+ miles without any engine work (I have a friend with 160,000 on a wing with nothing but a few sets of plugs and air filters). That said should anything major happen (and its a engine..anything can) then if you have 100,00+ miles I'm not sure it's worth the cost to repair it. A Harley can be rebuilt or even the engine replaced within most people's budget. That has always been one of the great things about a Harley...you can replace almost anything that goes wrong without breaking the bank. I have a friend with a Heritage who blew up his motor at 45,000 miles (he runs it very hard). While I would never expect that from a metric bike fact is it was a pretty easy fix...not to much money and he's back on the road with a bike he loves. I'd say just enjoy the bike and if something breaks fix it.
