bmancuso, Citoriplus is right. Better paint that thing. I don't want another bike out there looking as good as mine.

Decided to throw my pic in the mix. Glad we Softail Customers have a place to show our handy work. All the bikes here look great- just as the good people at HD would want them to.

Aviator, 2 - 3 hour rides are no problem on the custom; in fact you'll find such rides too short and have to carry on riding. At least that's my experience and with the thinner, better () looking retro seat!! Heck with the ugly overstuffed stock cushion seat you'll fall alseep .

I got a question for you Custom types..... I'm about to put the trigger on a new Harley...but just can't make up my mind. I've got a three-way thing going.... between a Custom, a Fatboy and a Classic. don't even say it - I know the three are as different as night and day - but I like points about all of them. my question to you guys is this: is this just a "cruise around town" bike? does anyone do day rides with it? part of my riding will be with agroup that take 2-3 hr rides a couple of times a month. the rest of the time it will be just for cruising the streets.
I do 100-200 mile rides just about every weekend. I have yet to have my butt start hurting. When I'm done after a few hours of riding, it feels as if I haven't even started the ride. This is definitely the most comfortable Harley I've owned. You would be very pleased with a Custom. I'm sure you wouldn't regret any of the bikes you're thinkin' about, though.

Leon,
Where did you get that sissy bar? I've been looking for a taller sissy bar that I can still use with the stock seat. If you had it custom made, mind sharing where you had it done and what it cost? Your bike looks awesome.

Aviator,
I do a lot of little rides (under 50 miles). All bikes are good for that. Do what I can to get200-300 miles/days in on the weekends (no problem). I went to a toy run this last weekend (Sturgis Mi). 500 miles down, 150 miles at the rally and 700 miles back home (went around lake Michigan). I was very happy with the comfort of the ride. Never felt sore. The wind noise was terrible. I am not use to riding with the windshield on. The wind was coming up from my legs and into my helmet. I need to add some deflectors for the long rides.
Ride safe,
Tex

Harley offersa taller sissy bar, #51853-07, but it is kind of expensive and isn't much taller.
I'd like to know where I can find a pad for either of these taller sissy bars that will fit above the back of the stock seat. My wife is starting to get cranky because she wants more back support.

I don't think that HD sissy bar is any taller. I think it's just a different style. That's not a stock seat on the bike in the picture, and it has a small backrest pad on it, which makes it look like the sissy bar is taller. I've seen backrest pads that slide over the sissy bar. I was thinking about picking one up for my wife because she'd like the extra support as well. I think they were about $40. I can't remember if I saw them online or in one of my catalogs at the house.
